In a shocking incident, a pregnant woman gave birth on road as the 108 ambulance could not reach the village due to bad road condition.

UMERKOTE: In a shocking incident, a pregnant woman gave birth on the road as the 108 ambulance could not reach the village due to bad road condition. The incident took place in Pahorikumda village under Umerkote police limits on Tuesday night.

Kalabati Santa (29), wife of Raju Santa, went into labour in the night following which, her family members called up the 108 ambulance. As the ambulance could not reach due to bad road condition, they decided to take her to the nearest health centre in a stretcher that was tied to a bamboo pole, on their shoulders. As it was raining heavily, the woman was covered in a polyethene sheet and carried for around four kms. Midway, Kalabati gave birth to a baby boy.The mother and the newborn were later shifted to the Community Health Center at Umarkote.
