BHUBANESWAR:Odia actor and film producer Pupinder Singh was arrested by Commissionerate Police on Saturday in a cheque bounce case, but released on bail in the evening.
Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court on Saturday issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against the actor following which Balianta police arrested him.
The court had also issued NBW against Pupinder’s wife Rupinder, but she was not present in the house at Hanspal when the police reached there.
The couple had borrowed `30 lakh from mining company, PK Ore Private Limited, in 2013 on the pretext of making a film.
Later, they refunded `5 lakh in cash and gave five bank cheques to clear the pending amount. Out of the five cheques, validity of two lapsed as they were not deposited in the bank on time. Similarly, the other three cheques of `13 lakh had bounced.
Pupinder reportedly skipped several hearings in the court in connection with the case. However, both the parties reached an agreement on Saturday evening after the actor promised to return the pending amount soon.The lawyer of the complainant told the court that his client has no objection regarding the bail plea of Pupinder as he has promised to return the money soon.
