Four-year-old burned severely after hot water is accidentally thrown at her in Odisha Anganwadi centre

Police sources said a helper of Hema Gahir Anganwadi centre was throwing hot water outside the kitchen and it accidentally fell on Kausalya Thakur.

BHAWANIPATNA: In an incident of accidental timing, a four-year-old girl sustained severe burn injuries on Friday after an Anganwadi helper accidentally threw hot water on her in Patrabasa village in Kalahandi district. The child is now said to be in a stable condition.

Police sources said a helper of Hema Gahir Anganwadi centre was throwing hot water outside the kitchen and it accidentally fell on Kausalya Thakur, who was playing with her friends.

“The water was used to boil eggs. As is usual, she threw the hot water outside the kitchen but never imagined it would fall on the child,” said a local Anganwadi worker.

Kaushalya Thakur was immediately rushed to Koksara PHC and later shifted to district headquarters hospital at Bhawanipatna after her condition deteriorated.

Police have started investigations following a complaint from the girls’s father, Sankar Thakur. Stating that people working in Anganwadi centres should always be careful as they deal with children, he demanded action against the
helper.

According to preliminary investigations, sub-divisional police officer of Dharamgarh, Sunil Acharya, said it was an accident. “However, further investigations are on to ascertain whether there was any intention behind it. We are recording the statements of the Anganwadi worker and other children who were present at that time,” he added. A case was registered at the Ampani police station.
