Chargesheet to be filed in Odisha SCB assault case

After a case was filed in the Orissa High Court over the SCB attendant assault case, the Commissionerate Police will soon file charge sheet against the accused junior doctors.

CUTTACK: After a case was filed in the Orissa High Court over the SCB attendant assault case, the Commissionerate Police will  soon  file chargesheet against the accused junior doctors.

On May 29, a group of junior doctors had assaulted three attendants of a patient, Kubera Bhusan Ray, in the Orthopaedic Department.

Later, his wife Kumudini had filed an FIR at Mangalabag police station. Since police failed to initiate any action against the junior doctors, one of the injured attendants, Pradyumna Kishore Rout, had filed a writ petition in the Orissa High Court on Thursday.

Sources said while the SCB authorities did not provide the details of the eight junior doctors against whom the FIR was filed, police conducted investigation and identified as many as 17 junior doctors involved in the incident. However, the police did not arrest them as it may create law and order situation and may affect health services in the Government-run premier hospital.

Instead of arresting the accused junior doctors, police are trying to frame chargesheet against them and file the same in the court soon, sources added.

Meanwhile, the High Court has posted the date for hearing of the case to June 13.
