Dana Majhi set to tie the knot for third time

Dana Majhi is in the news again. Dana, who carried his wife Amanga Majhi’s body on his shoulders for 12 km after being denied a hearse by Bhawanipatna Government Hospital, is all set to marry again.

BHAWANIPATNA: Dana Majhi is in the news again. Dana, who carried his wife Amanga Majhi’s body on his shoulders for 12 km after being denied a hearse by Bhawanipatna Government Hospital, is all set to marry for the third time.

Dana Majhi, from Melghar village located 60 km from Kalahandi district headquarters town of Bhawanipatna, had hogged international headlines for carrying Amanga’s body on his shoulders and walking for 12 km on August 24 last year.


He had earlier married Dami Dei of Singhpur village under Kalyansinghpur panchayat in Rayagada district. After her death 10 years back, Dana  married Amanga, who died of TB in Government Hospital, Bhawanipatna. Apparently, Dami too had died of TB.

Sources said Dana has decided to marry for the third time and this time, the bride is Almati Dei of Damanghati village under Kashipur block in Rayagada district. He is waiting for completion of his Indira Awas house in Melghar after which the wedding would be solemnised, sources said.

Three of his daughters from Amanga are currently pursuing education at Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) in Bhubaneswar.


Following the incident of carrying his second wife’s body, helped poured in for Dana from various quarters, including the Government and the Prime Minister of Bahrain Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa, who donated Rs 10 lakh to him on compassionate grounds.  

According to reports, Dana received more than Rs 37 lakh from different quarters along with an Indira Awas Yojana house from the State Government.
