BHUBANESWAR: The State BJP will launch a silent protest across Odisha on June 18 against the egg attack on two Union Ministers during their recent visit to attend the 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas' programme.
The party has decided to organise silent protest in all the Zilla Parishad Zones, municipalities and Notified Area Councils (NACs) of the State, vice-president of BJP's state unit Samir Mohanty told reporters here.
Mohanty said his party will also protest against the rape and murder of a widow of Kankadahada village in Dhenkanal district allegedly by some supporters of the ruling BJD.
Alleging that the ruling party has become more intolerant towards its political opponents after the panchayat elections, Mohanty said a shaken BJD has resorted to violence to silence any voice of dissent.
The secrete understanding between the BJD and the Congress has now come to the fore after the egg attack on Oram in Kendrapara district. Scared of the growing popularity of the BJP, the two parties have joined hands to stall the progress of the saffron party.
The BJP will counter the violent methods adopted by the ruling party by holding silent protest in a peaceful manner. Besides, the party will continue to expose the inefficiency of the BJD Government which has failed to keep any of its poll promises during the last 17 years, Mohanty said.
He further alleged that the investigation into the gangrape and murder of a dalit woman in Dhenkanal district is being conducted in a shoddy manner as the accused persons are supporters of a strong BJD leader. None of the accused has been arrested so far, he added.
Prior to the attack on Oram, Congress activists had hurled eggs on the vehicle of Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh in the city.
