BHUBANESWAR: With many youngsters in the City showing interest in skating, a roller skating rink was inaugurated at Madhusudhan Park in Pokhariput here on Friday. The skating rink, which will be the first of its kind in a Government-managed park, spans over 8,000 sq ft and will accommodate around 20 skaters at a time. The facility has been developed by the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and is managed by the Odisha Skating Academy (OSA). It aims at popularising the skating-related activities across the city.

Witnessing the interest of a large number of youths at skating events during Patha Utsav, the organisers of the weekend event proposed to BDA to set up a skating rink in one of the city parks, said sources. “It is a good sign that youths are showing interest in various sports related activities including skating,” said BDA Horticulturist AN Dhar.

The trainers of OSA will train boys and girls on tricks and tips of roller skating at the park. The development authority is also setting up another roller skating rink at Buddha Jayanti Park in Chandrasekharpur. The proposed skating rink would be built over over an area of 20,000 sq ft and to be ready by August.
