BHUBANESWAR: District BJP president of Kendrapara Sukanta Kumar Dwivedi was removed from the post by State party president Basant Panda on Sunday. “Dwivedi was relieved from the post of district unit president as he failed to discharge his responsibility,” State BJP vice-president Samir Mohanty said.
However, sources said Dwivedi was shown the door for revolting against the party by openly announcing that he would boycott the June 11 function organised at Kendrapara if senior party leader Bijoy Mohapatra was not invited.
A known supporter of Mohapatra, Dwivedi had eventually boycotted the ‘Mishran Parva” attended by Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan. The function was organised for induction of two former MLAs Utkal Keshari Parida and Dolagobinda Nayak in BJP.
Ahead of the June 11 meeting of the party, Dwivedi had convened a meeting where his supporters shouted slogans against Pradhan for not inviting Mohapatra to the function.
This seems to be a precursor to the BJP taking action against Mohapatra who has been embarrassing the party for sometime now. Taking exception to some of Mohapatra’s public utterances against BJP, Panda recently said he had apprised the party’s Central leadership about the ‘anti-party’ activities of the former.
