CUTTACK:A 65-year-old woman, wife of Congress worker Ananta Charan Mallik whose house was allegedly ransacked by local BJD supporters in violence-hit Podana village under Niali block, has threatened self-immolation in front of the office of the Director General of Police (DGP), if protection is not provided to her family and steps are not taken against the accused within seven days.

In a letter to DGP KB Singh on Thursday, Pushpalata Mallik stated that due to lack of protection from local BJD workers, she has left her house and taken shelter outside. ‘’It is better to immolate myself than to hide in fear of BJD workers,’’ she said.
Around 15 armed local BJD workers barged into Pushpalata’s house on Monday night and outraged her modesty in absence of her husband. When she protested, the BJD workers assaulted her. While leaving, the accused also threatened her to leave the house or face dire consequences, the letter stated.
Though she lodged an FIR in this regard with Niali police on Tuesday, no action has been taken against the accused, Pushpalata alleged.
Meanwhile, SP, Cuttack (Rural) Madhab Chandra Sahoo visited Podana village and took stock of the situation. Necessary steps are being taken against the persons responsible for the violence, Sahoo said.
