BHUBANESWAR/MALKANGIRI : Three wanted cadres, including two women of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) outfit, surrendered before the Malkangiri police on Saturday, citing exploitation from their leaders and ill health as the reasons. Each of them carried a reward of `one lakh on their heads.

The trio,  Malle Bedingi alias Malle, Merry Karnem alias Divya alias Laxmi and Deba Madkami alias Deba,  belonged to Kalimela Local Operating Squad (LOS) under the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) of the CPI(Maoist).

All three were active members of Kalimela Area Committee under the Malkangiri division of the AOBSZC.

“The three were diagnosed with jaundice and multiple infections. The surrendered Maoists have been sent for de-worming and will be undergoing treatment before rehabilitation,” Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra said. Malle and Deba worked as private security guards of top Maoist leaders Gajarla Ravi alias Uday and Gopal, respectively.

Divya had worked with the Kalimela area committee for 11 years during which she allegedly killed 10 police informers, and was involved in the explosion of an anti-landmine vehicle at MV-126 in July 2008 besides, the Damanjodi attack in 2009.

Malle (20), a native of Santekguda, was involved in at least five offences. During 2015, Malle was involved in the killings of Gopal Kirsani in May, Chakra Sisha in August and Adu Matam in September. She was working as party member with CPI(Maoist) Kalimela Area Committee.

Deba (20) is from  Kurub and Divya (24) is from Arabeti village which are under Kalimela police limits in Malkangiri district. Divya had joined the Kalimela area committee in 2013. Deba worked for the Kalimela LOS between 2015 and 2017 and was involved in four cases, including the murder of Gurumurthy Madhi of Telrai, Budu Hantel in Tekguda and Soma Podiami in Santekguda in 2016.

Malle and Divya were influenced by awareness camps organised by NGOs and police to shun violence and contacted the district police directly. Deba had contacted a BSF camp and offered to surrender.

Exploitation and menial work under pressure at the camps forced the trio to surrender. They will be given a cash benefit up to `3.98 lakh each apart from livelihood training and support under the State Government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy, Mahapatra added.
