Five held for stealing bikes in Bhubaneswar

BHUBANESWAR: The Commissionerate of Police on Saturday busted a two-wheeler lifting gang with the arrest of five persons including two juveniles from the City.

Police also seized 11 expensive motorcycles and six mobile phones from their possession. The gang was active in Ghatikia, Dumduma, Jagamara and Khandagiri for the past six months and involved in at least 20 cases of vehicle theft.

Three among the accused have been identified as Manas Kumar Samantray (28) of Nimapara in Puri district, Sk Islam (18) of Jadupur and Biswaranjan Sharma (19) of Dumduma here. One among the minors is a student of engineering at a local college here. They have been booked under Section-379 (on charges of theft) and produced in the SDJM’s court which remanded the trio in judicial custody.

The minors were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and sent to the Juvenile Reform Centre at Berhampur. Khandagiri Police is verifying the gang’s involvement in other offences which have occurred in the recent past.
