JE arrested for taking bribe

A junior engineer (JE) was arrested by Vigilance sleuths for allegedly taking bribe in Dhenkanal on Friday.

BHUBANESWAR: A junior engineer (JE) was arrested by Vigilance sleuths for allegedly taking bribe in Dhenkanal on Friday. The errant officer, Rajendra Prasad Mishra, was caught red-handed while receiving `25,000 in his office from one Suresh Nayak of Kamakhyanagar.

Mishra, posted at the Dhenkanal NAC, had demanded the money to facilitate an official work in Nayak’s favour. The sleuths conducted a search at Mishra’s residence at Nimapara in Puri district. He was produced in a court and remanded in judicial custody.
 In another case, the Bhubaneswar Vigilance Division arrested the Secretary of a Bolgarh-based cooperative society on charges of bribery. The sleuths had laid a trap on the basis of a complaint lodged by Laxmikanta Panda of Kanharpur in Khurda district. According to the Vigilance, the secretary of Arikaman Service Cooperative Society, Dhaneswar Samantaray, had demanded ` 2,000 from Panda to sanction a loan and disburse crop insurance. Samantray has been remanded in judicial custody. His house at Bolagarh was being searched.
