Facebook controversy: Aarohi’s owner Sujit Sahoo goes into hiding

Students alleged that Sahoo had organised a contest, 'Best Display Picture', on his FB page earlier this month and also given away awards to the winners.

BHUBANESWAR: A day after the Commissionerate of Police registered two FIRs over posting of photographs of RD Women's Univeristy's girls on Facebook (FB) account of Aarohi Creations with derogatory comments and captions, the owner of the organisation, Sujit Sahoo, on Sunday went into hiding.

Students alleged that Sahoo had organised a contest, 'Best Display Picture', on his FB page earlier this month and also given away awards to the winners.

A team of Sahid Nagar police, which is investigating into the case, is trying to establish whether Sahoo, a member of his organisation or a miscreant posted the pictures on the FB page without consent of the students. There are also chances that someone has created a fake account using the name of the organisation or someone has hacked the original page and posted the pictures of students, a senior police official said.

Soon after the inappropriate captions were spotted by the girls, they reported it to Facebook and following which, the account was blocked by the social network administrators. However, the address of Aarohi Creations is yet to be traced.

"Since the page has been blocked, there is no footprint of the posts on Internet and it is not possible to trace the IP address from which system and location those photos were uploaded," DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said.

Facebook authorities are likely to respond within a couple of days to the queries of the Commissionerate of Police regarding the account, he added. On Sunday, a group of students staged a protest in front of the university gate demanding a thorough probe into the case by the Crime Branch.
