Heat stroke claims one life in Jharsuguda

One person allegedly died of sunstroke as the industrial town of Jharsuguda recorded 43.4 degrees on Thursday.

JHARSUGUDA: One person allegedly died of sunstroke as the industrial town of Jharsuguda recorded 43.4 degrees on Thursday. This is 4 degrees more than the normal day temperature recorded in the town.

The deceased has been identified as Souki Lal Bishwal (41), an employee of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL). A resident of Bandhbahal’s Charla village, he died at TRL Hospital. The district administration, however, is yet to confirm the death due to sunstroke.

With heat conditions sweeping across the State, the residents of Jharsuguda, the base of coal mines and power plants, felt the intensity more. Heat emitted by the coal and power units severely affected the residents of Jharsuguda and its adjoining areas.  

Lakhanpur area General Manager of MCL, M G Brahmapurkar, said the company is making all arrangements to ensure that its employees do not have to face rigorous occupational hazards due to heat.
