Poor show of railway stations in Odisha in cleanliness survey

The railway stations of the State have not faired well in the Station Cleanliness ranking conducted by the Rail Ministry.

BHUBANESWAR: The railway stations of the State have not faired well in the Station Cleanliness ranking conducted by the Rail Ministry.

The third party audit result, which was unveiled by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Wednesday, revealed that Bhubaneswar ranked 29th among the 407 stations which were evaluated. It is the best ranked in the State and second in the East Coast Railway (ECoR) zone after Visakhapatnam. Bhubaneswar station received 764 marks.

Khurda Road, Jajpur-Keonjhar Road, Bhadrak, Puri and Cuttack followed with 105, 111, 130, 131 and 138 ranks in the overall chart.

The audit evaluated cleanliness in parking, main entry area, main platform and waiting room. Process audit, direct observation by Quality Council of India assessors and passenger feedback were collected to make the assessment.

A 24x7 control room was set up and images were geo-tagged to monitor the progress.

The survey was conducted through interviews with respondents on questionnaire on cleanliness indicators which was done face-to-face by survey teams. Every passenger was asked to rate the cleanliness of stations objectively on 40 different cleanliness parameters.
