BHUBANESWAR: In a tragic incident, an unidentified youth died after he jumped off an under-construction high-rise building near Kalpana Square in Bhubaneswar on Friday night.

Police said the youth was spotted by some workers while he was proceeding towards the top floor of the building at around 12:30 am. The youth did not respond the call of the workers who suspected his intentions and followed him.

By the time a team of fire service personnel from Kalpana Fire Station and cops from Badagada police station arrived at the spot following the phone-call from the building’s security guards, the youth had already reached the edge of the roof.

"He screamed out aloud that he did not require any help. Within a few seconds, the youth jumped off the building and fell on the ground, before we could set up the ladders for ascending the building. He sustained critical head injuries and
died on the spot," said a police sub-inspector.

A case of unnatural death has been registered, said the police. The body has been preserved in the mortuary of Capital Hospital.

“We will wait for 48 hours before proceeding with the post mortem,” the police official added.
