Human Rights Protection Cell of Odisha rules out Koraput gang-rape

BHUBANESWAR: The Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) of Odisha Police has ruled out gang-rape of the Sarispadar minor girl which had led to statewide outrage.

Additional DG HRPC, Mahendra Pratap, told The New Indian Express that the report submitted to Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) which rules out gangrape is based upon medical reports submitted by a team of doctors. “The report is based on statements of police, security forces, doctors and other agencies involved in the matter. The HRPC inquiry is based on the investigation made by different agencies and their reports,” he said.

Odisha Police had earlier conducted a polygraph test on one of the suspects, a friend of the minor girl who had accompanied her to the market in Kunduli on October 10.

On Monday, the OHRC had directed the superintendent of Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput to personally appear on November 10 and submit a report on the treatment provided to the Sarispadar gang-rape victim. The commission has also directed the hospital authorities to submit the bed head report of the minor girl.

The victim had alleged that she was gang-raped by four men in uniform near Kunduli on October 10. The police are yet to make any arrests in the case. Meanwhile, police security is being provided to the girl and her family under the supervision of Additional SP, Koraput.
