Odisha: Parents, three daughters, commit suicide by jumping before train in Sambalpur

SAMBALPUR: Five members of a family, including three daughters, allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a train near Sambalpur Road Railway Station in the city on Tuesday night.

Police identified the couple as Dharanidhar Panda (50) and his wife Sangita (45) and their three daughters as Ananya (16),  Aparajita (14) and three and half-year-old Siddhi.

Their bodies were recovered from the railway track on Wednesday morning and sent for autopsy, the police said. 

According to the report, the deceased Dharanidhar was a music teacher in a private school in the city who had been staying in a rented house with his family at Jagannath Colony under the Ainthapali police limits in the city.

Police said the loco pilot of Rourkela-Sambalpur DMU train informed the station master of Sambalpur Station that three female had jumped before the moving train.

Subsequently, government railway police (GRP) was informed about the incident.

The GRP personnel then rushed to the spot and ascertained that five persons of a family had committed suicide.

Police suspect financial crisis and loan burden to be the reason behind the incident.
 
A case of unnatural death was registered in the government railway police station in Sambalpur and further investigation is on.
