Consider teachers’ demand: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan

In a letter to the Chief Minister, Pradhan requested to absorb the BEd Sikhya Sahayaks against the existing vacancies as many of them fulfill the revised norms of the department concerned.

BHUBANESWAR: Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to consider the demands of B Ed Sikhya Sahayaks who have been agitating for long demanding the pay scale of trained graduate teachers (TGT).

In a letter to the Chief Minister, Pradhan requested to absorb the BEd Sikhya Sahayaks against the existing vacancies as many of them fulfill the revised norms of the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resources Development.

The BEd Sikhya Sahayak Sangha has been demanding abolition of 6 years contractual appointment for regularisation as this violates the revised norms of the HRD Ministry. The other demands of the sangha include implementation of Right to Education Act 18 (C) pertaining salary, allowances and condition of services of teachers, the letter stated.

In a separate letter to Union Minister of State for Communication Manoj Sinha, Pradhan requested for issue a postage stamp in memory of the freedom fighters who were massacred by the British on September 28, 1942.

Eram in Bhadrak district is considered the second Jallianwala Bagh of the country and is popularly known as Raktatirtha. The police firing had left 29 people dead and 50 others grievously injured, he said.
