PHULBANI: The bullet-ridden body of Basanta Bhatta, the Gaon Sathi of Durgapanga village who was abducted by Maoists on the suspicion of being a police informer on Sunday night, was found near Satanalia under Baliguda police limits here on Tuesday.

The Bansadhara-Ghumusar-Nagabali (BGN) divisional committee of the Maoists also left several posters near the body of Bhatta, warning other informers of similar consequences. The posters stated that the Gaon Sathi faced the dire consequence as he was engaged in passing on information about activities of Maoists to police. Other police informers will also face similar fate if they continued to work for the police.

The Maoists held the Kandhamal SP and Intelligence officers responsible for the incident. Through the posters, they also urged police not to play with the lives of innocent tribals.

Police seized Bhatta’s body as well as the posters and have started investigation. Meanwhile, local residents staged road blockade near Durgapanga village demanding compensation for the kin of the deceased.

Bhatta was abducted from his house by 15 persons wearing Maoist uniforms. They forcibly took away the Gaon Sathi after a brief conversation. Bhatta had not received any threat to his life earlier, police said.
