BHUBANESWAR: A man attempted self immolation in front of Naveen Niwas on Monday after failing to get a house under Indira Awaas Yojana. He has been identified as Sunil Kumar Chakra, a native of Ghasipura in Keonjhar district. Sunil was holding a petrol bottle and attempted suicide in front of Chief Minister's residence under Airfield police limits, but the alert cops managed to stop him.

"I came here to commit suicide. The people opposing the ruling party are being deprived of houses under IAY," Chakra told mediapersons while being frisked away by cops. According to police, Chakra had never put forth his grievance before the Government. "A case has been registered under Sections 309 and 506 of IPC and Sunil was produced in a court on Monday," a policeman posted at Airfield police station said.

On September 7, a woman, who has been claiming herself as wife of Talcher MLA Braj Kishore Pradhan, attempted suicide in front of Naveen Niwas, but she too was rescued by the police and was later released.
