Action against Aditya Aluminium sought

Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Narasingh Mishra has demanded strong action against Aditya Aluminium which has flouted all pollution norms for running the smelter-power plant complex at Lapan

BHUBANESWAR: Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Narasingh Mishra has demanded strong action against Aditya Aluminium which has flouted all pollution norms for running the smelter-power plant complex at Lapanga in Sambalpur district.

In a special mention raised in the Assembly, Mishra said day-to-day working procedure adopted by the plant violates all norms of pollution set by Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) and basic operational norms adopted by such plants. Regular transport of coal to the plant by using trucks pollutes the atmosphere, Mishra said and added trucks and wagons are not covered with tarpaulin to minimise pollution.

The process adopted in power generation and smelting generates some harmful waste, he said and alleged that the plant authorities have neither taken any control measure nor have ever assessed its impact on the people residing in nearby villages.
