BHUBANESWAR: Women journalists of Bhubaneswar on Friday took out a silent protest march condemning the murder of journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh in Bengaluru. Holding placards and banners, they protested attempts to strangulate voices of fearless journalists like Lankesh.

Held under the aegis of Odisha Women Journalists' Forum, the march started from Ram Mandir Square and concluded at Ekamra Haat here. The journalists demanded immediate arrest of the murderers of Lankesh and safety of journalists across the country.

The forum said, killing of Lankesh was an attempt to strangulate freedom of speech. "It was an attack on rational and free thinking - a serious threat to country's democracy.”  The protest was also against the climate of ‘hatred’ and intolerance’ in the society, a member added.Apart from journalists, people from different walks of life joined the march.
