BHUBANESWAR: Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena has directed the officials concerned to fill up the vacancies in the posts of paramedics and nurses in Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Paediatrics (SVPPGIP) at Cuttack in the next seven days.

At a high-level meeting at the Secretariat here on Wednesday, Jena admitted that the patients and their attendants suffer in the absence of adequate facilities and infrastructure at the health centre for children.
The Minister had recently visited Shishu Bhavan and found many fans and ACs non-functional in several wards. He had pulled up the authorities for failing to maintain hygiene and proper sanitation inside the hospital campus. “I have asked to repair defunct fans and ACs within next two months and encourage the patients to avail medicines from Niramaya store. Officials have been directed to monitor it and ensure that no patient and attendant faces any problem,” he added.

In its recent observation, the Comptroller and Auditor General had criticised the State Government for enhancing bed strength without increasing the floor area and large scale vacancies in SSVPPGIP.
