BHAWANIPATNA:A family of six persons, accused of practising sorcery, has been forced to desert their village by co-villagers in Kalahandi district. The incident took place two days back in Jaipatna block of the district.

Bidya Naik and his family of five persons of Karmel village under the block have now taken shelter in an open field in the neighbouring Sardhapur village. When some persons of the village started falling ill under mysterious circumstances, a group of villagers held Naik responsible and alleged that he was  practising sorcery. They then asked him to leave the village or face dire consequences.

While Naik has registered a complaint with Jaipatna Police, he alleged that a land dispute between him and the group of villagers is the actual reason behind the incident. Naik had approached the Collector’s grievance cell over the land dispute with villagers on November 24 last year.
