Security beefed up for Bhubaneswar college elections today

Commissionerate Police have beefed up security in and around the colleges in the Capital City ahead of the students’ union elections on Saturday.

BHUBANESWAR: Commissionerate Police have beefed up security in and around the colleges in the Capital City ahead of the students’ union elections on Saturday. At least seven colleges in the city and three in the suburbs are going to the polls.

The colleges are Rama Devi Women’s College, Deba Ray College, Capital Law College, Rajdhani College, Kamla Nehru Women’s College, Ekamra College, among others.“Two sections of police force will be deployed at Rama Devi Women’s College and Deba Ray College, while one section force each will be deployed near the remaining colleges of the city,” Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said.
Utkal University and Maharishi College were closed sine die a couple of days back due to the frequent pre-poll violence inside the campuses.

Earlier in the day, students of Deba Ray College here indulged in a verbal spat during the ‘What I Stand For’ meet on Friday.A Plus III second year student Harapriya Prusty, who is contesting for the post of general secretary, and few other students of the college indulged in war of words when the former was delivering the ‘What I Stand For’ speech. Prusty felt uneasy during the incident and was rushed to a nearby hospital.The supporters of Prusty approached Commissionerate Police and lodged a complaint against a few students alleging harassement and manhandling.
