Cops intensify cash crackdown

A day after a father-son duo was produced in court for carrying unaccounted cash of `40.50 lakh in their vehicle, Bargarh police on Monday recovered `10 lakh from a bike at Agalpur in Barpali.

BARGARH : A day after a father-son duo was produced in court for carrying unaccounted cash of `40.50 lakh in their vehicle, Bargarh police on Monday recovered `10 lakh from a bike at Agalpur in Barpali. Police later referred the matter to Expenditure Monitoring Committee after the man carrying the cash gave satisfactory explanation about the source of cash.

Bargarh SP JN Pankaj said preliminary investigation revealed that the money was from the collection of a petrol pump. The man was taking the cash to bank for deposit when police intercepted him at Agalpur.
Besides launching an awareness campaign ‘Yes to vote, No to note’ to educate voters of Bijepur against giving or taking bribe, police have stepped up vigil on movement of large amount of cash. On Monday, a special squad of Bargarh police swooped down on the house of district president of BJP Yuva Morcha in Padmapaur Pritesh Bohidar suspecting hoarding of illegal cash. Bohidar is managing the poll campaign in Bijepur. 

Padampur police also brought Akash Agrawal and his father Omprakash Agrawal on remand for further interrogation on recovery of `40.50 lakh.r Dharmendra Pradhan came down heavily on Bargarh police for claiming that the cash was meant to influence voters by the BJP. 

Meanwhile, commissioning of EVM machines, scheduled to be used in Bijepur by-poll, was completed in presence of Returning Officer-cum-Sub Collector of Padampur Tapiram Majhi.
 This apart, training for 30 sector officers, who will be deployed in the by-election, was also completed. 
As per the model code of conduct, posters and banners have been removed from Government property.
