BHUBANESWAR:A day after clearing culverts on NH-16 near Iskcon temple to prevent water-logging on the service road in front of the temple, the civic authorities launched a crackdown on houses and residential buildings that have encroached land and creating obstruction for drains.

On Saturday, a joint squad of BMC and BDA visited the water-logging area near Iskcon temple and cleaned the culverts and cross drains. The enforcement team on Sunday inspected 12 houses and residential buildings at Behera Sahi in Nayapalli and found three have constructed boundaries on encroached land creating obstruction for drain. The team will again visit the area  on Monday to carry out demolition of identified boundary walls, a BDA official said.

This inspection will continue in the coming days to find out more such illegal constructions in the area, he said.The enforcement squad of the Central Enforcement Monitoring Committee also removed some obstructions along the cross drain passing through Behera Sahi. It has also been decided that drain on both sides of the NH in front of Iskcon temple will be renovated.
