Devotees brave rain, pull chariot at Jagannath temple

JEYPORE: Braving heavy downpour, thousands of devotees pulled the chariot of Lord Jagannath here on Sunday.Traditionally, the chariot of Lord Jagannath is pulled a day after the car festival in Puri. On Saturday evening, the trinity were taken out in a procession from Jagannath temple to Raj Nagar.

Special rituals were conducted by the sevayats of different villages engaged by the king of Jeypore.As per legend, the Jeypore dynasty could not get ‘agyan mallo’ (special permission) by Puri Gajapati to organise the car festival the same day.
