This Rath Yatra, art lovers in the city witnessed the vedic tale of Lord Jagannath's coming to existence through colours. The opportunity came in the form of a painting exhibition themed around the Lord being held at Suvadra Art Gallery in city's Tanka Pani Road area. Artist Binodini Behera has depicted the mythological episode with acrylic on canvas.

In another painting, artist Tapan Dash juxtaposes the image of Mahatma Gandhi with Lord Jagannath and temple servitors. Predominantly painted with mustard yellow colour, the artist used a spatula to change the texture of the painting. "The small dots that you can see have been added to the painting with the help of spatula. I have used the spatula only after smearing the canvas with oil paints," Dash adds. The portraits in the painting have sharp edges. Artist Rabi Rath has used the abstract form to present his perspective of the Jagannath culture in his painting. "I call this painting as Jagannath Yantra. You will find everything related to the Lord in this painting. From the sea to the temple affairs, everything has been painted in acrylic," he added.

The exhibition was commenced on July 14 and will continue till July 28. The exhibition contains paintings in acrylic, water colour, charcoal and mixed mediums.
