BHUBANESWAR:Famed singer Susmita Das will launch her music video titled ‘Rasagola’ at Bhanja Kala Mandap, here on Monday. The occasion marks a part of the rituals of Rath Yatra at Puri. As per the ritual, Lord Jagannath offers Rasagola to Goddess Laxmi for appeasing the deity of wealth.
Before the release of the music video, a panel discussion of eminent culturists, historians and researchers will be held. Noted Odia lyricist Devdas Chottray has scripted the lyrics. Music of the video has been composed by Bibhuti Bhushan Gadanayak and visualised by Biyotprojna Tripathy.
The video was launched nationally on the eve of Ratha Yatra in Delhi in presence of Chief Justice of India Dipak Mishra; Justice GB Patnaik, former CJI; Sitakanta Mohapatra; Gokul Patnaik and Amarendra Khatua on July 13.The music video is a satirical assertion of Odia pride and sets the context of the delectable sweet’s legacy in Odisha. It sets the context of the sweet’s legacy in the State.
Rasagola, which is a favourite sweet item all over the country, has been a bane of contention between Odisha and West Bengal regarding its origin. After a Chennai-based Intellectual Property Office declared that the ‘rasgulla’ had its geographical origin in West Bengal, a few people in Odisha moved the Orissa High Court. Acting on a PIL filed by Punya Utkal Trust, the High Court had issued notice to Odisha Government, Jagannath Temple Administration and Bengal State Council of Science and Technology and Intellectual Property Office to submit their response over the dispute on Geographical Indication (GI) status to Rasagola.
