SAMBALPUR:  The Indian Institute of Management, Sambalpur (IIM-S) hosted the commencement ceremony for the fourth batch of Master of Business Administration (2018-20) programme here on Monday. The institute welcomed the students to a week-long orientation programme in the presence of Managing Director of Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Ashish Garg; President, Hindalco, Sambalpur Cluster, Rajesh Kumar Gupta; Divisional Railway Manager, Sambalpur Division, Jaideep Gupta and Director of IIM-S, Mahadeo Jaiswal.

A total of 108 students registered themselves on the day of the commencement ceremony. Welcoming the new MBA students, Garg urged them to take risks to excel in their professional lives. He said risks will allow them to avail opportunities. Citing the importance of technology in the current era, Garg appealed to the students to be ‘digitally ready’. “If you are not digitally ready, you will be outdated in the market,” he said. 

In his address, IIM-S Director said the new batch will be introduced to the faculties, attend class on communication, finance and accounting and interact with the officials of the district administration and representatives of the local industries during the week-long orientation programme, which will conclude on August 4.  The regular classes of the new batch will begin from August 6, he said.He said the cut off for admission into IIM-S was 95 percentile this year. “So far, 108 students have taken admission and the admission process is underway,” he said, adding that the institute currently has seven faculty members while eight more will be recruited in the current academic session.  

Nischal, who joined IIM-S after completing his engineering from IIT, Hyderabad, said he had got a call from IIM-Shillong also. However, he preferred IIM-S due to the reputation of the institute and its Director. Presently, IIM-S is functioning from the premises of Sambalpur University. The permanent campus of the institute will be developed at Basantpur. The work on the boundary wall for the permanent campus of IIM-S has already been completed and the entire infrastructure is likely to be ready in three years.
