Cuttack OAS official, ex-Revenue Supervisor held for fraud

BHUBANESWAR: Cuttack division Vigilance officers arrested Lathikata Tehsildar Bijay Kumar Behera and retired Revenue Supervisor of Lathikata Tehsil Pramod Kumar Beura on charges of corruption. On a tip-off, that Behera, an OAS official, collected huge amount of illegal money from different stone and sand quarry lessees and was proceeding towards Chhatrapur in a private vehicle, the anti-corruption agency intercepted him on NH-49 on Wednesday in Angul district.

During the search they recovered Rs 5,54,900 from his possession. The OAS official failed to give an explanation about the cash he was carrying. The sleuths also recovered Rs 1.98 lakh from Behera’s associate Beura, who was travelling with him. Behera, Beura also failed to give an explanation about the cash, he was carrying.

After recovering the money from the duo, simultaneous searches were conducted at six places including, the government quarter of Behera at Lathikata Tehsil, his office chamber in Lathikata Tehsil, his house in Chhatrapur, his house under Banapur police limits, rented house of Beura located in Rourkela and his house under Patkura Police limits. A case has been registered against the two persons and they were produced at a court in Cuttack, a Vigilance officer said.
