Four held in witch hunting case in Odisha's Mayurbhanj

Police on Saturday arrested two persons of a family and their two associates for allegedly killing a person on suspicion of sorcery in Mayurbhanj district.

BARIPADA: Police on Saturday arrested two persons of a family and their two associates for allegedly killing a person on suspicion of sorcery in Mayurbhanj district.The arrested siblings of the family have been identified as Siba Singh (32) and Dhanu Singh (29) of Mankadakenda village within Chanuda police limits.

The two associates are Beta Singh (32) and his friend Dasmat Marandi (31) of Marangtandi village within Suliapada police limits of the district. An axe, used in the crime, was seized from their possession. IIC Gopal Chandra Karn said on Monday a body was traced on Monday from a paddy field near Mankadakenda village which was identified as that of Sonu Singh, son of Manga Singh. The body bore several marks  indicating the victim’s throat was slit by the killers.

On the basis of a complaint filed by Mangal Singh, the son of the deceased, a case was registered under Section 302 of IPC,  120 (B) and 34 of IPC and Odisha Prevention of Witch Hunting Act, 2013 against the four accused.The accused were produced in Baripada SDJM Court and remanded in  judicial custody after their bail plea was rejected.
