BERHAMPUR: Due to non-availability of the ambulance, a person had to carry the body of his mother on a motorcycle to Purushottampur hospital.

The woman, identified as Tanu Gouda (43), was struck by lightning at 3 pm on Monday. Her son Raju and his friend Birupakhya Mohanty informed the ambulance and fire brigade personnel but none reached the spot. Left with no other option, Raju along with his friend carried the woman to Purushottampur hospital on a motorcycle.

Though the doctors at the hospital declared her brought dead, the post-mortem was not conducted as the matter was not reported to the police. Infuriated over the callous attitude of the authorities, a few locals reached the hospital and engaged in a heated exchange of words with the doctors. Soon police reached the spot and pacified the crowd and registered an unnatural death case.
