PHULBANI: An Indian Army jawan, who was apprehended last week for allegedly raping a woman Home Guard of G Udaygiri, tied the knot with the victim in a temple on Sunday afternoon.

During interrogation, the accused, Tulu Pradhan (32), expressed his intention to marry the victim. Similarly, the Home Guard also gave her consent to the proposal and the marriage was solemnised at Tarini Temple in G Udaygiri in presence of the families of the couple.

Tulu, a native of Penagobhari village under Tikabali police limits, is posted in Bihar Regiment. During a visit to the village while on leave, he raped the woman by trespassing into her house on June 15 evening when she was alone. Following the incident, the lady Home Guard lodged an FIR in G Udaygiri police station.

Minor girl raped
Boudh: A minor girl of Bapujinagar in Boudh town was allegedly raped by two persons in an abandoned house under Boudh Town police limits. The victim’s family lodged a complaint on Sunday. According to the FIR, the 15-year-old girl was returning home from a nearby shop on Sunday afternoon when the accused forcibly took her to the abandoned house and committed the crime. Both, Pintu Badhei (24) and Tuku Kumbhara (24) of Syamsundarpur village, have been arrested.

60-year-old held for molestation attempt
Rayagada: A 60-year-old man of Kadambaduara street in Kalyansinghpur village under Kalyansinghpur  police limits was arrested and forwarded to court on Monday on the charges of attempting to molest a minor girl. According to police, the accused Jala Benia entered the victim’s house in the wee hours of Sunday when the family members were in deep sleep and attempted to outrage the modesty of the girl. On hearing her screams, her parents woke up and nabbed Benia with the help of villagers before handing him over to Kalyansinghpur police. The man was forwarded to court which rejected his bail plea and sent him to judicial custody.
