BHUBANESWAR:In a bid to ensure full immunisation coverage, the State Government on Tuesday decided to launch a three-phase special vaccination drive under Mission Indradhanush in 10 aspirational districts from July 16.

The districts which have been selected for the campaign are Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Balangir, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nuapada and Nabarangpur.At the State task force meeting chaired by Health Secretary Dr Pramod Kumar Meherda, it has been decided to immunise children upto two-year-old as well as pregnant women against seven vaccine-preventable diseases.

“The children in the age group of 0-2 years and pregnant women who have either discontinued the vaccination or not yet received any vaccine during regular campaign will be covered during the special drive. It will help achieve 100 per cent vaccination coverage,” said Dr Meherda.     

While the first phase will begin from July 16, the second phase will start from August 13 and third phase will commence from September 10.The officials have been asked to make door-to-door visit and prepare a list of children and pregnant women who will be immunised during the campaign. The head-count that began on June 16 will continue till July 5.

The final list will be ready by July 7 and it will be uploaded in the official portal by July 9. Vaccination will be conducted for seven days in a month apart from the regular vaccination days of Sunday and holidays.

Necessary directives have been issued to the officials concerned of the aspirational districts and they have been asked to make it a successful mission.

Ten districts of the State have been included in ‘Transformation of Aspirational Districts’ programme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The programme aims at quickly and effectively transforming these districts.

Among others, Director of National Health Mission Shalini Pandit and Director of Health Services Dr BK Brahma were present.
