Cabinet nod for water projects in Koraput

BHUBANESWAR:The State Government has decided to implement rural piped water projects under one package to provide safe drinking water in Koraput district.A proposal in this regard was approved at the meeting of the State Cabinet presided by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here on Thursday. After the completion of the project, 2,79,966 people of 268 villages of 51 gram panchayats under three blocks of the district will be provided safe drinking water. Chief Secretary AP Padhi said 150,643 people of 137 villages in Boriguma block, 34,420 people of 38 villages in Kotpad block and 94,903 people of 93 villages in Jeypore block will benefit. The Cabinet approved the lowest tender of JMC Projects and Ramky Infrastructure, Mumbai amounting to `316.53 crore for execution of the work. The work is targeted to be completed within 24 months.

Besides, the Cabinet approved to provide 881.745 acres of land in 172 villages of Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur and Bolangir districts free of cost to Ministry of Railways for construction of Daspalla-Balangir segment of Khurda-Balangir new broad gauge railway line.The proposal to lease out 181.77 acres of land free of premium, incidental charges, but subject to payment of `100 per acre per annum towards annual ground rent and cess at 75 per cent of the ground rent for establishment of permanent campus of IIM, Sambalpur was approved by the Cabinet. The State exchequer would have to forgo `2,35,19,595 and `34365 on recurring basis due to the decision.

The Cabinet decided that out of 2970 acres handed over to the Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) for establishment of steel plant at Gopalpur in Ganjam district by Tata Steel, 1235 acres notified by the Centre as SEZ may be utilised by the Tata Steel Special Economic Zone Limited (TSSEZL) as such. The balance 1735 acres may be utilised by TSSEZL for setting up a private industrial park as domestic tariff area.

Besides, the Cabinet approved the State Government’s decision to withdraw the proposal for a pro-chancellor in Biju Patnaik University of Technology. The draft Biju Patnaik University of Technology (Amendment) Bill, 2016 was passed in the Assembly on September 29, 2016 and submitted to the Governor for approval. However, the Governor had returned the Bill for reconsideration by the Assembly as to the desirability of a pro-chancellor in the light of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Model Act.

The Cabinet also approved proposal to exempt land premium of `25 lakh in favour of Adim Owar Jarpa, Odisha, a registered socio, educational cultural organisation of tribal community for one acre of land in Chadrasekharpur mouza in the Capital City.
