MALKANGIRI: Maoists on Wednesday night gunned down Ganga Madkami (30) of Sudhakonda village under Kalimela police limits suspecting him to be a police informer.
The rebels left a pamphlet at the spot threatening to eliminate others who share information about them with the police. Around 20 armed Maoists reached Sudhakonda village at around 1 am on Wednesday night and barged into Madkami’s house. They asked Madkami to follow them to the village outskirts where the rebels fired two rounds killing him on the spot, sources said.
In a handwritten poster left on the crime spot, the rebels stated that Madkami was instrumental in surrender of the villagers before the police. “The other police informers will also be punished by PLGA”, read the poster.
Meanwhile, police sources said Madkami was a soft target for Maoists who killed him on false charges of being a police informer. The rebels’ frustration due to erosion of support base among the tribals of the district is leading them to commit such crimes, added the police. Combing and search operations have been intensified in the area after the incident.
