Two BJD men held in Odisha for misbehaving with cops

Sources said a team of Kujang police, led by sub-inspector Radhakant Barik and others, were conducting a helmet checking and verification of vehicle drive when they intercepted two bike riders.

JAGATSINGHPUR: Two Biju Janata Dal (BJD)  workers were arrested by police for misbehaving with Kujang police personnel during a helmet checking drive at Taladanda on Cuttack-Paradip State highway on Saturday night.

Sources said a team of Kujang police, led by sub-inspector Radhakant Barik and others, were conducting a helmet checking and verification of vehicle drive when they intercepted two bike riders, Rajendra Kumar Sahoo and Pravat Kumar Patra, for not wearing helmet.

Even as the police team tried to impose a fine on them, Sahoo said he is a BJD supporter of local legislator Damodar Rout while Patra identified himself as the bodyguard of Rajya Sabha member and cine star Anubhav Mohanty.  Soon a heated exchange of words ensued between the two and the police team. IIC of Kujang police station Dillip Kumar Sahoo rushed to the spot and took the two to the police station. Later, a few BJD leaders pressurised the police to release them. It was decided by the police to release the two on PR bond after verification of their Aadhaar card.

During verification, it was found that the real name of Pravat Kumar Patra was Saroj Kumar Patra. Police later registered a case against the accused for cheating and misbehaving with the police. Both of them were forwarded to court on Sunday.
