An ailing tusker, which was being treated in Bokada forest section near Champeswar under Narsinghpur east range area, died on Thursday night.

ATHAGARH : An ailing tusker, which was being treated in Bokada forest section near Champeswar under Narsinghpur east range area, died on Thursday night. The tusker was spotted ill in the forest and given adequate treatment by Forest department but the efforts to save it failed as the elephant died on Thursday night, said Range Officer Aviram Jena.

As per forest officials, the tusker was over 40 years old and had some wounds on its head, stomach, legs and other parts of the body. The wounds were due to fighting among elephants.Narsinghpur BDO Prasant Kumar Tarai, ACF Purna Chandra Guru and veterinary surgeon Dr Sudhir Panda rushed to the spot on Friday morning and extracted the tusks.
