After seven days of hectic efforts, the district police rescued the two abducted employees of Kechela Aravinda Integral School from a hut near Padapadar village under Boipariguda police limits on Friday. Four persons including a juvenile claiming themselves to be Naxalites have been arrested and two guns seized from their possession.

The two employees, Sukanta Satpathy and Chinmoy Parida, were kidnapped from the school hostel in Kechela near Kolab reservoir by nine unidentified miscreants who later demanded ` 50 lakh for their release.

According to police sources, the nine-member fake Naxalite gang included four men, four women and a young boy. All of them belong to different villages under Koraput and Nandapur blocks.

The sources said the gang had demanded extortion money from the school management but when the latter refused to pay, the gang, posing as Maoists, abducted Parida and Satpathy. The two were taken to Peta village via Kolab and kept in different jungles for four days.

As the police intensified combing operation in Machhkund, Peta and Kolab areas, the school employees were taken to  Padapadar village, around 80 kms from the kidnapping spot. The gang forcibly vacated a hut belonging to a tribal and locked the duo inside on January 27.

Police could trace the employees after detaining five persons of the gang who spilled the beans. On Thursday night, police raided Padapadar village. Taking advantage of the darkness, the kingpin of the gang Arjuna managed to escape but the two employees were rescued.

Talking to mediapersons on Friday, Koraput IG Jaswant Jethwa and SP Aswini Kumar said police had delayed the rescue for safety of the hostages. Besides, there was a little confusion due to involvement of four women in the case. However, police busted the gang and operation is on to nab Arjuna and other members of the gang, they added.

Those arrested have been identified as Bhagaban Khilo, Madan Khemudu and Jaga Kehmundu while the juvenile's name is yet to be ascertained.

The two abducted employees were produced before the mediapersons. However, they did not reveal anything as further investigation was going on. Their health condition is stated to be stable.

The combing operation was on for seven days and 200 personnel of armed forces, district police and 20 senior police officials were engaged in the mission.
