The ground at Baramunda where Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s PM candidate Narendra Modi will address a public meeting has put the City Police in a spot of bother since the NH-5 passes nearby.

With about a lakh people expected to converge at the meeting venue on February 11, the traffic could be in shambles.

The Commissionerate Police is trying to figure out how the party supporters and volunteers will not pose a problem for the vehicular traffic since it is an important route and diversion would not be possible.

“We may have to allow traffic on one side of traffic because the meeting would be during peak hours and supporters would keep coming in vehicles.

That could throw the traffic movement out of gear but we would like to minimise the inconvenience,” said an officer.

Senior officers of the Commissionerate Police inspected the ground on Friday ahead of visit by security agencies. Since Modi enjoys Z+ security, the National Security Guard (NSG) team will be in the City next week to assess the security arrangements.

The Commissionerate Police will provide the outer ring of security for the BJP leader as well as to the meeting.
