CUTTACK: A major fire broke out at Jagatpur Industrial Estate here razing the entire campus comprising a couple of units and godowns on Thursday. Property and goods to the tune of lakhs of rupees were damaged in the fire that continued for more than six hours even as no major injuries were reported.

According to reports, fire engulfed Jagannath Industries compound at around 6 am.

The campus was shared by Jagannath Industries, a paper carton manufacturing unit and Indac Rubber Limited, a tyre resoling unit. Sources said the fire was first noticed in Indac Rubber Limited shed and rapidly spread to the whole compound. As the units stocked paper and inflammable chemicals, the fire turned into an inferno.

More than six fire engines were rushed to the spot within half an hour of the incident that struggled for over five hours to contain the fire.

“The inferno was severe due to the presence of combustible materials like paper, synthetic glue and paint chemicals. Engines were deployed from fire services headquarters and offices at Chauliaganj, CDA and Tangi along with more than 50 firemen,” Fire officer Chandramani Routray said.
