After Western Odisha, now the Bar Associations of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nawarangpur and Rayagada under aegis of Koraput Scheduled District Central Coordination and Action Committee, Jeypore have demand a permanent bench of High Court in undivided Koraput district.

Court proceedings were hit in Malkangiri due to the ceasework by Bar members. Lawyers led by former deputy speaker and Action Committee Chairman Prahallad Dora on Friday picketed in front of the District Session & Judge Court and did not allow District Judge G Panigrahi to enter the court. Senior Lawyers Anwar Saha, Ram Pattnaik and Bar Association secretary Lambodar Turuk were also present.

Dora said it is a colossal task for a litigant to travel more than 600 km to attend the High Court proceedings in Cuttack. There should be a permanent HC bench at any suitable place in the undivided Koraput district for the benefit of the poor litigants and commonmen of the scheduled area, he added.

“Our demand is genuine and the Government should act on it soon. The committees will decide future course of action after September 5, the last day of ceasework,” Dora said.

The Committee has given a bandh call in Malkangiri, Nawarangpur, Koraput and Rayagada districts to press the demand on September 4.
