NIA Team Interrogates Arrested Maoist Leader

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) probing into the Maoists attack at Darava Ghat in Chhattisgarh last year interrogated top Maoist leader Chandu alias Anil Kumar in Central jail here on Thursday. Twenty-eight Congressmen and security personnel were killed in the incident.

According to sources, a NIA team led by senior officer Sanjay Kumar rushed to Koraput after the arrest of hardcore Maoist and second-in-command of the Andhra-Odisha special zonal committee, Chandu, by Koraput police recently.

The NIA team grilled the Maoist in the jail for several hours. Sources said that during the interrogation the team got vital information on the plan of the Maoists for the attack and involvement of different cadres. The NIA team had also interrogated Maoists in Malkangiri in this connection. The team members would submit report to Home Ministry after completing investigation in different parts in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgharh.

Chandu ailas T Anil Kumar, was the Maoist intelligence chief of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.Earlier, Koraput police had taken Chandu on a seven-day remand.
