The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is in talks with the government of France to set up a 250-bed multi-disciplinary hospital at Gadakana Mouza in Public Private Partnership mode.

The hospital will be set up on five acres and is estimated to be a ` 100-crore project. “We have asked the General Administration (GA) Department to identify and hand over the land for the hospital as soon as possible,” said Mayor AN Jena. The representatives of the French government are interested in developing the hospital  and have initiated talks with civic officials.

The proposal for the hospital has also been forwarded to the Housing and Urban Development (H & UD) Department. After examination by the Asian Development Bank for funding, the proposal has now gone to the Empowered Committee for a detailed review.

The detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared only after the BMC gets the land. The ratio of funding between the BMC and  France will be decided later. BMC has been mulling over another hospital for sometime even though its hospital at Old Town is in dire need of attention.

The operation theatre at BMC Hospital is in a coma as it does not have a surgeon to perform operations. On an average around 500 patients visit the hospital daily. But an acute shortage of doctors is crippling its services.

BMC has also proposed to set up another  hospital at the Annie House Chowk on the Mahatab Road.
