U-turn on nationalising works of Kannadasan

The government gave up its move to nationalise the works of poet Kannadasan following the protest from his legal heirs.

CHENNAI: Following protests from the families of well-known writers Kannadasan and Sundara Ramasamy, the state government on Wednesday gave up its move to nationalise their works.

Pointing out that there was no compulsion, an official release said that the government had decided to give up the move as their legal heirs had not given their approval.

The state government has been in the process of nationalising the works of Tamil scholars only with an objective to make them easily available to the people, the release said.

“If the legal heirs of some writers do not accept the state government’s move to nationalise their works because they would not get royalty, the government would give up the efforts,” the government said.
