PUDUCHERRY: AICC general secretary and Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi would visit Puducherry on Friday to inaugurate the Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium at Pondicherry University. Later he would have an interaction with the students of the university and address the executive meeting of the Youth Congress at Hotel Ashok.

The security has been tightened at the cricket stadium and the University. Several police personnel have been deputed in the areas along the Kalapet region and the coastal areas.

The borders security has also been heightened and all the vehicles entering the city would be checked.

Lodges and hotels are also being checked. Metal detectors are placed all the three venues and hundreds of police officers armed with weapons, sniffer dogs, bomb squads, would also be present.

Meanwhile,  the BJP said it would stage a protest against Rahul Gandhi’s visit here on Friday. In a press release issued by the party office, the BJP condemned Rahul’s visit to the Pondicherry University as politicising an educational institution.

The BJP said Rahul is not a scientist or an inspirational image like Abdul Kalam to visit an educational institutuion, he was just an MP from Uttar Pradesh.

Citing the fact that the NSUI members would meet Rahul in the University premises, the BJP condemned it saying a party meeting should not be conducted at an educational institution.
