DMK readies for polls with intra-party meet

The DMK will begin its preparations for the forthcoming Parliament elections with a meeting of functionaries and workers on December 15. The meeting would be chaired by party treasurer M K Stalin on December 15 here to discuss the electoral strategy and other poll-related issues.

Stalin on Sunday, inspected the meeting’s venue and deliberated on the arrangements. DMK district secretary K N Nehru also announced a meeting of district office-bearers to discuss arrangements for the meeting. The meeting in Tiruchy will be held at Khajamalai, where the bushes were cleared and the scaffolding will be erected within a few days.

This will be the first of DMK’s series of meetings to be held in all the 39 constituencies in the State.

Constituency-wise meetings will be held at Karur and Perambalur on December 16 under the leadership of Stalin. At present, Tiruchy and Karur Parliament seats are being held by the AIADMK, while the Perambalur seat was won by the DMK. The DMK allocated the Tiruchy seat to Congress during the 2009 elections. This time, the party functionaries are hopeful that the leadership will not allot the seat to any other party.

Alliance issues too are expected to come up. While, most of the DMK functionaries and cadre approve an alliance with actor Vijayakant’s DMDK, opinion is sharply divided on continuing the tie-up with the Congress, which is already eyeing the Tiruchy seat.
